WPC Committees
The following is a list committees and descriptions of the Waldensian
Presbyterian Church, along with committee chairs and co-chairs. (Please
place this committee list in the back of your church directory to keep as a
handy reference.)
Christian Education Committee (meets the 2nd
Sunday each month at 3pm)
The Christian Education Committee seeks to provide
opportunities for spiritual growth and ministry for people of all ages.
Our purpose is to “equip the saints” through study of the Bible and Christian
life as they discover their place in God’s world. This is carried out
through classes, activities, and programs designed to encourage and nurture each
person on his/her faith journey as they live it out in our community, nation and
world.

Christian Relations Committee (meets on an as
needed basis)
The Christian Relations Committee has a wide scope of
activities such as the following: Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Graduate
Recognition, Camps and Conferences, Recreational Teams, Parent Effectiveness
Course/Support Groups, Vocational Guidance, College Student Worship, Festival
Meal, Festival Booth, and the Christmas Scene.

Missions Committee (meets the 2nd Sunday each
month at 4pm)
One of the primary functions of this committee is to lead the
members of the congregation into a deeper commitment to Christ and His Church.
The emphasis of the committee is concerned with the church reaching out to the
local community and into the world.

Personnel Committee (meets the 3rd Sunday
each month at 8:30am)
This committee is charged with the oversight of the
professional staff members, in cooperation with the other appropriate
committees. It shall prepare job descriptions as necessary, review and
evaluate the work of the staff, recommend salary changes and allowances, approve
vacation schedules, consider office equipment needs (including maintenance and
upgrading of computers) and make recommendations to the Session.

Property Committee (meets on an as needed
basis)
This committee has responsibility for the security,
maintenance and improvement of all church properties. It seeks to maintain
all properties and equipment, supervises the work of the janitor, arranges for
the hiring of repairmen, and makes recommendations about the scheduling of
repairs, etc.

Stewardship and Finance Committee (meets the
3rd Sunday each month at 5pm)
This committee has the oversight of the financial life of the
church. It seeks to develop the generosity of the people in their time,
talents and material gifts, educates the congregation concerning the financial
needs of the church courts and the local church, plans the budget, develops the
financial campaign, has oversight of the expenditures and distribution of gifts,
and plans for special offerings, etc.

Worship Committee (meets the 2nd Sunday each
month at 4pm)
This committee is charged with the oversight of the worship
service, the administration of the sacraments, special services including Holy
Week, weddings and funerals. In addition, it is responsible for the
ministry of music as the Director of Music and organist are members of this
committee.

Endowment Committee (meets on an as needed
basis)
Established in 1998, the Endowment Fund’s purposes are to
encourage church members to advance the Kingdom of God on earth through gifts
and bequests, to establish a policy as to the use of the endowment funds and to
provide for the management of those funds.

This committee serves the vital function of administering all
the records and affairs of the cemetery.

The Evangelism and Fellowship Committee has as its mission the
bringing together of the congregation for Christian fellowship and welcoming
others to join us in serving and worshiping our Lord.

The Chairman of the Funeral Ushering Committee or Designated
Team Leader is responsible for ushering funerals as required in the Sanctuary.

Hospital Care Ministry (meets on an as needed
basis)
Members of the Hospital Care Ministry visit members of the
congregation when they are in the area hospitals. We endeavor to show
compassion, concern and give spiritual strength to our church family. We
also maintain a snack basket in the waiting room on the fourth floor of Valdese
General Hospital for family and friends of those in the community who are in
intensive care.

Financial Assistance Ministry (meets on an as
needed basis)
The financial assistance ministry is charged with the
responsibility of the food pantry and providing financial aid to people of the
community who are in need. Committee members interview applicants and
determine what assistance we can offer—rent, power, water, heating oil, gasoline
or food. A member of this committee is available on Tuesdays and Thursdays
from 2pm-4pm each week to offer assistance. This committee also ensures
that the food pantry and hygiene cabinet are well stocked.

Clothing Drive Ministry
This committee is responsible for the semi-annual clothing
drive held in the spring and fall. Clothing is separated and delivered to
Broughton Hospital, Burke United Christian Ministries, Grandfather Home for
Children and the Salvation Army.

Audio and Video Ministry (meets on an as needed basis)
Morning worship services are recorded and distributed to
homebound members of our congregation each week. The audio and video
ministry is supported by the Men of the Church.

Transportation Ministry (meets on an as
needed basis)
The mission of the Transportation Committee of the Diaconate
is to ensure that every member and friend of the church will have transportation
without charge to medical appointments, church events and some other special
needs.

Celebration Ministry (meets as part of the
Diaconate the 2nd Sunday of each month at 8:30am)
This committee is responsible for sending cards or notes for
the following occasions: birthdays, weddings, new babies, high school and
college graduation and special events. This committee also oversees the
Church Mouse Program for college students.

Community Ministry (meets on an as needed
basis)
The community ministry consists of projects and activities in
our community. Some of the activities and projects include: Meal for
Agape Retirement Home, Angel Tree and Christmas Stockings for the needy of our
community, Blood Mobile (twice a year), installing wheelchair ramps for homes,
Habitat for Humanity, J. Iverson Resident, and stuffing envelopes for
Grandfather Home.

Men of the Church Assistance Committee (meets
on an as needed basis)
The Men of the Church Assistance Committee operates under the
overview of the Diaconate of the Waldensian Presbyterian Church. The goal
is to provide advice and solutions for problems that you may face regarding home
maintenance and repair and/or auto maintenance and repair.

Jett Set Committee (meets the 2nd Sunday of
each month at 5pm)
This committee is charged with examining the fellowship needs
of older adults in our congregation, then forming and implementing plans to meet
other needs. Regular trips and outings are planned, and monthly luncheons
held.

Meals Ministry (meets as part of the
Diaconate the 2nd Sunday of each month at 8:30am)
The meals ministry is responsible for providing meals to
individuals or family members who have been in the hospital. This ministry
is coordinated through the chairman of this committee and the parish nurse.

Historical Committee (meets on an as needed
basis)
This committee has the responsibility of preserving the
heritage of our church and its people. It is responsible for the
collection and display of artifacts in the museum, the operation of the museum,
the scheduling of its use, the special programs, etc.
