At Waldensian Presbyterian we believe all are called to ministry, either through our community garden, church pantry, working with children and youth, participation in fellowship and worship or a host of other outreach activities that we are involved in each week. We hope you will find your place serving beside us. Contact the church office during business hours.
Each month on the second and fourth Saturday's at 9 a.m. we work in our Community Garden located just across the railroad tracks on Praley Street. Come out and help as often as you like. For more information visit the Garden's facebook page or call the church office: 828/874-2531.
Every Thursday between the hours of 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. we host a food pantry to local residents. We serve over 750 families annually through our pantry and it takes many volunteers to shop for groceries, stock the shelve and assist clients on Thursday. We appreciate all the help we can get, contact the church to help us out: 828/874-2531.
We have multiple programs for our children and kids in this age group need lots of oversight. We offer a children's music program, Wednesday afternoon programming during the school year, Terrific Thursday's over the summer, nursery and children's church on Sunday. We are a safe sanctuary and our volunteers must go through a rigorous screening process before engaging with our children. If you feel called, please contact the church for an application. Every October, the church congregagtion as a whole, takes a Saturday and gives back in various ways. Our seniors congregate in the fellowship hall and pack shoeboxes and the bags of candy that we give out during "Treats in the Street" on Halloween. Our able-bodied members canvas the community to work at pre-determined areas usually in some manner of home or community improvement projects. Follow us on Facebook to catch the announcement in the fall.
Waldensian Presbyterian Church has a covenant relationship with a sister church in Suchitepequez Presbytery, Guatemala. Periodically, members travel to Guatemala to visit and work in solidarity with our brothers and sisters. We offer other mission trips periodically including disaster recovery and work programs. Follow us on Facebook to catch the announcements for these periodic trips.
Our Deacons are a busy group. They answer the call from partnering agencies and organize outreach on an as needed basis. Some recent examples include assisting with transportation to the soup kitchen; working with counselors at the schools to arrange children as Angels for our Christmas tree; delivering homebound meals; transporting members to and from a service or event; or working with a family in need of support and encouragement. They stay busy year round and are happy for all the help they can get. Call the office now and share your talents with your community. WPC: 828/874-2531.
